Photographic Collection: James Miller

James Miller (1924-2008) , had a camera in his hand since he was 16 years old. During WWII he seved as in infantryman in the European campaign, where he was captured and held as a German POW.
After the war he returned to Torrington and pursued a career in commercial photography.
The bulk of Miller’s work in the collection are his black and white photographs of the 1955 flood and its aftermath. Many of these photographs were used to illustrate his popular booklet “Flood”.
The Torrington Historical Society collection also includes many of Miller’s photographs of
Christmas Village in the 1950s.
