Visions of America’s History: The Folk Art Paintings of Charles Besozzi

Our newest exhibition "Visions of America's History: The Folk Art Paintings of Charles Besozzi"  will be openning in the Carriage House Gallery on August 9th and will run thru October 31st, 2014.


Hours are Wednesday thru Saturday, 12-4pm.


 

Research leads to the discovery of historic photographs. Over 250 “unknown” pictures depicting Torrington at the turn of the century found in Massachusetts archive.

Torrington, CT – While doing research in an online database, a volunteer from the Torrington Historical Society discovered over 250 unknown photographs showing Torrington during the early 1900’s.

Three Civil Rights Programs to be presented by The Litchfield Historical Society, The Torrington Historical Society and League of Women Voters of Litchfield County

A series of three civil rights programs based on the Created Equal Film Series will be presented during January, February and March of 2014 in Litchfield and Torrington.   

Created Equal: America’s Civil Rights Struggle is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Humanities that uses powerful documentary films to encourage community discussion of America’s civil rights history.

Free Tai Chi in the Gardens of the Torrington Historical Society

Instructors trained by the Australian family physician and tai chi expert, Dr. Paul Lam, are offering free Tai Chi classes Tuesday evenings outside on the lovely grounds of the Torrington Historical Society at 192 Main Street from 6:30 to 7:15 pm starting July 8 through August 27 (8 weeks).  In case of inclement weather, there is no session.

Grant Awarded to Create Walking Tour of Torrington’s National Register Historic District

Mark McEachern, Executive Director of the Torrington Historical Society, and Stephen Warshaw, Marketing Consultant to the City of Torrington, jointly announced today that the Society has received a heritage grant in support of “A Walking Tour of Downtown Torrington’s National Register Historic District”.

Torrington Historical Society Re-Opens for the Season

Torrington, CT -  The Torrington Historical Society, located at 192 Main Street, is open for the season and will remain open through October 31st. The Society is home to three tourist attractions: the Hotchkiss-Fyler House Museum, the permanent exhibit, No Place Like Home: The History of Torrington, and the Hendey
Machine Shop exhibit Pursuit of Precision: The Hendey Machine Shop 1870-1954.

The Hotchkiss-Fyler House Museum and the two exhibits are open to the public Weds - Sat, 12-4 p.m.
